James Lawrence Sailmakers
We have designed and manufactured sails and rigging for a wide range of
traditional and modern vessels.
Our sails and rigging can be found around the globe on training ships, square
riggers in feature films, charter ships and luxury classics.
Nearer home, our sails are powering everything from Colne Smacks, Thames Barges and
the winners of Old Gaffer Races to the smallest Luggers. There are even a few
Junk rigged boats wearing our sails.
Our Sailmakers can help you with rig changes, improvements, new designs and
most aspects of sail performance.

We use traditional techniques and materials and combine them where necessary
with modern materials and equipment to produce the finest sails and rigging for your
application.
Many of our commissions start with a visit to your boat. We will discuss
your requirements and make the measurements that we require. If necessary,
we often will sail with you and make more measurements.

We also produce spray hoods, dodgers, cushions, flags, net sails, boat covers
and industrial covers.
